Multidapt Review

What is the Multidapt system, what does it do,
How does it work, why is it so popular and best of all, why
is the concept sometimes hard to understand. These are some of the
questions that I’m sure consumers, resellers and even some master dealers
ask themselves from time to time.
So let’s start with a small amount of history, answer
the questions and show you the clips, swivels and accessories that accompany
such an ingenious design. Shall we start with Krusell? Will of course, the
inventors and Swedish company located in Mölnlycke, Sweden.
1997 was the date that the Multidapt was born. Marcus
and David Krusell, founders of Krusell International AB and inventors of the
Multidapt system, two brothers that felt the need to create and give the
consumer of portable electronics versatility. It was time after 6 years of
working with leather, that Marcus and David felt the need to
evaluate how they could improve their product. They got together
like brothers sometimes do to see if they could come up with some great
brainstorm idea. Well, “After throwing around a
multitude of ideas and a couple of extra beers, nothing really clever
resulted except for a hangover the next day, which was soon to be the most
ingenious hangover in the history of Krusell”. Marcus called David the next
morning and told his brother his idea and that year the Multidapt was born.

What is the Multidapt system?
As you can see on the pictures
below, this is a female hardened plastic adaptor that gives the user the
ability to carry your phone, PDAs, MP3 Players, and portable gaming systems
the way you prefer. But wait just a second, there’s more! Not only can you
buy a Krusell case that already has the Multidapt system attached, but you
can also buy the Multidapt separately. That’s right! You can now buy your
favourite portable DVD player, MP3 player, and a radio for your gym workout,
and enjoy the flexibility of using a clip, swivel or any accessories of
choice. All is Interchangeable with all of your Multidapt compatible
portable units. Sounds complex, not really, it’s actually very easy to use.

What does the Multidapt do?
Simple, This female type of adaptor
allows the user to add and remove clips, swivels attachments and accessories
at will and best of all, all of the Multidapt clips, swivels and accessories
are interchangeable. Now you can buy a case for your portable electronic
devices and purchase clips, Swivels, straps, vehicle adaptors (cars and
bicycles) etc… When you’re ready to buy a new case for your new phone, PDA
or portable equipment, not a problem, you already have the clips and
accessories, you’re ready to go. Just go back to your reseller of choice
and purchase your next case.
- Looking for a
CLIP (stationary
type of clips that don’t swivel) to add to the Multidapt system? Not a
problem, slide the clips onto the female Multidapt system on your case or
device and presto, your ready to go!
- Requiring a
SWIVEL type of
attachment (A clip that pivots as you move)? Not a problem, slide on
either a plastic or metal button onto the female Multidapt system and
bingo, now you can use ANY of the swivel attachments.
- Need a
hand strap or a sporty
neck strap, krusell has also thought of that too, on the top of the
Multidapt they created a loop type of holder that allows for such
accessories. Just loop the Sport neck strap through and when you’re ready
to remove it, use the quick release. Let’s not forget the security strap
that will save your devise from hitting the ground, another design by
KRUSELL.
- How about a
car adaptor or
bicycle holder; Krusell has that too.
- Imagine the possibilities if you
get creative, Krusell has practically almost every solution to carry your
portable electronic device.
Now you no longer need to purchase a
case that has a stationary clip. Versatility, flexibility and convenience,
these are the three words we use to describe the Multidapt system.
So how does this Multidapt system
work?
This
hardened plastic female adaptor has two slide rails on each side and a
locking mechanism centred on the unit to allow for all the Multidapt
compatible clips, swivels and accessories to attach and lock in place. All
of the Clips that slide up onto the Multidapt system have access to a
release button by way of an opening that is located on the clips. With a
ball-point pen, you can easily release the lock by depressing down on the
button located through the opening on the clip. Then while holding down the
button, you can slide the clip down for removal. This is visually shown on

To use a
swivel type of clip that pivots while attached, you would need an extra
piece called the Slide Button.
This slide
button slides onto the Multidapt system in the same way the clips do and the
same opening to release the button slide is centrally located on the button
itself. When purchasing a Swivel type of clip, it comes with the
button slide, hence called a kit because you receive both the slide button
and swivel clip of choice. Krusell manufactures two types of buttons,
one hardened plastic, and another in metal. The two Swivels in their
assortment called Metal Swivel kits, a regular sized swivel clip and the
large one made for Godzilla, ha ha… both come with the metal button and the
other Swivels come with a plastic button.
The
Multidapt system also has a ring opening at the very top to allow attachment
of the Hand-Strap and Neck-Strap. The Neck-Strap has a quick release to use the devise when needed.
Why is the Multidapt so popular?
Most cases today come with a clip
that either is already attached to the back of the case or comes with a
swivel button on the back of the case and a swivel type of clip to allow the
case to pivot. Krusell has designed and patented a system called the
“Multidapt” that now allows you to choose between an array of different
Clips, Swivels, Straps, Car-holders, Bike-holders and the list goes on. Why
the popularity? Versatility, flexibility and convenience, this is why the
craze and hype. Finally a manufacturer, that steps up and gives the
consumer what their looking for. I would also like to point out that
Quality is another reason why people buy Krusell. It’s important to know
this because Krusell first made their mark in this market by creating a
Hand-Made-Leather-Quality case, then they enhanced it by creating the
Multidapt system.

Why is the Multidapt concept
hard to understand?
Hard to understand, I guess it
would depend who we are talking about, I mean, either the consumer
“customer”, or the reseller “Internet or free-standing store selling the
product”. Let’s look at both views.
The
Consumer:
Until
Krusell came into the picture with the Multidapt system, consumers were
given very few options on suspension. The look in case design has
always changed and variety has always been there in the way it looks and
feels, whether we have chosen synthetics, plastics, neoprene
or genuine leather, the evolution has always been “Looks”, but the way
we have carried our portable devises have always been limited. After
conditioning consumers on the looks and never altering the suspension,
such variety in clips and swivels can get confusing. Now the consumer
needs to look at both the case “accessories for the phone” and Clips,
Swivels, and Vehicle holders “accessories for the case or
sub-accessory”. Some people would say “keep it simple” a case with a
clip that’s all I need, but some would say “can’t anyone come up with a
way that I can change the way I carry my portable devise”. Once you
have a taste of the Multidapt system, you won’t go back. Change, this
is the culprit, but when change comes in the way of versatility,
flexibility and convenience, change could be very refreshing.
The
Store Reseller:
Now
resellers will carry both accessories and sub-accessories, finally a
case that we sell rather then hang on a peg and collects dust. In
retail, it is no secret that it is always important to up-sell or add-on
items. Krusell does just that, providing the opportunity to sell the
consumer versatility, flexibility and convenience, but the opportunity
also comes with training both your staff and the consumer on the
advantages. No longer should you place a case on a hanging peg and
expect to take advantage of selling both accessories and
sub-accessories. Krusell has gone to great detail on their new blister
packaging to show how the Multidapt works, but nothing replaces a
salesperson that is well trained on the Multidapt and its advantages. A
reseller must learn to change quickly and recognize that selling a
customer quality, versatility, flexibility and convenience is the key to
“Loyalty”.
The

or can be purchased separately and can be attached via an adhesive
backing to any portable devise.
Pros
for the consumer:

Multidapt system separately. Remove the adhesive backing; attach it to
your devise of choice, and your ready to enjoy true flexibility.

resellers even offer a lifetime warranty!
Pros for the reseller:

imagine selling your customer a case and then the customer comes back
in 6 months asking to purchase a new case to go with their original
sub-accessory “Clips, Swivels, adaptors or straps”.

in retail, it’s always been important to
add-on items at the register. Now you can feel good about suggesting
sub-accessories for their Krusell case.
